Basile Radio in Rome
Review from Basile Radio in Rome:
Crashed Out - Rampant very aggressive, really interesting Pop
Punk, four piece band from Jarrow, UK - Their Album 'Pearl Before
Swine' is absolutely fresh and catchy From a 1 to 10 we give them
an 8 - Oi Oi, Beautiful stuff!
This was an all dayer at Durham University.
The first band I watched were Jarra lads,
Crashed Out.
The lead riff to Fast And Loose ringing out
into the hall, as I walked down the stairs.
They pumped out their high-energy street
Punk, with a mosh going on down the front.
"This is for all them fat bastards still up
there in the bar!" singer, Chris Wright announced their next one,
Fat Punks Don't Pogo.
The set was short and sweet, but if you see them headline their
own gigs, they are always on a lot longer.
Near the end came This Is Our Music, with
plenty of middle fingers in the air for the semi-spoken intro, as
they shout
"Stick yer politics up yer arse!"
Their last number was Alan Price's old
Jarrow Song, with way more power than the original version.

Trillians - Newcastle
This
was their last gig in the North East this year.
They
changed the set around a bit, and kicked things off with Shout, closely
followed by Fat Punks. Singer, Chris flashed his Dennis The Menace grin,
and took the piss out of the audience, saying "There's a canny few
Christmas jumpers out there, eh."
The
bread and butter of the set was mostly from the Pearls Before Swine album,
with Fast And Loose, Murder On Sunset Strip, Heroes, and Outcast, at the
end of each song, Chris thanking the crowd for their applause with
"Cheers", his Jarrow accent making two syllables of the word (Cheeaz!).
Lee
chugged out the power chords, while Geordie Broon kept his powerful bass
sound rumbling along. There was a great crowd in, almost as many as when
the Business played.
Decca
is no longer with the band, and has been replaced with a much younger lad,
Martin, who played like a demon.
Towards
the end was the Jarrow Song, and Raise Your Glasses, to the tune of
Blaydon Races.
A
blistering version of This Is Our Music included some backing vocals from
the crowd, to the semi-spoken intro.
There
was only one encore, I Want It.
As the
number drew to a close, Crashed Out extended the bridge into the chorus,
and Chris introduced all the band members ...............

UK SUBS + CRASHED OUT + OUTLAW
Seconds out - round two! Following the previous
night's carnage my lip is split and my back has more marks than an offside
rugby union player. First up are Outlaw who are a very young group with an
average age of around 14 playing mainly cover versions of their Dad's
favourite songs. As previously mentioned I'm not a cover fan at the best
of times so when kids are playing the songs of my youth I'm left very
cold. Musically these lads are very talented, and should be playing their
own songs not belting out punk rock oldies at 40 odd year old blokes.
Crashed Out were awesome. One of the best "new" bands
around. Even with a new drummer these lads were tighter than a duck's
backside. Brilliant. And for the record fat punks do pogo, just some of us
need more recovery time.
For the first time, I've seen, in around 20 years the
Subs failed to erupt the dance floor. Perhaps everyone was recovering from
the Goldblade chaos the night before. The Subs sound was good, however there
was not the usual mayhem in front of the stage. Most of the usual favourites
were belted out but no Party in Poulton today.

Tour Diary
8/9/06 The first gig was
at Bannermans Edinburgh, First band on tonight is Crashed Out a
small cave/ Cellar type venue with a great sound the place was
packed out. Wattie from Exploited was spotted in the crowd and
later told the lads he loved there song 'Fat Punks Don't Pogo'
Crashed Out played a brilliant set as usual tight as hell. Next on
were Holy Racket from Sunderland another great set although they
did have a bit trouble with feed back.
Drongos for Europe played brilliant to a crowd now going mental
Drongos have been playing since 1979 and still look like they
totally love the scene.
9/9/06 Newcastle Carling Academy this is an all ages show and the
place is packed about 300 in total, Drongos take the stage first
and the crowd go mental from the off, Next up and its Crashed out
on there home turf again the crowd go crazy with bouncers having
to pull young kids from the stage. Holy Racket are on last this
time and end the night on a high, I think the bands should play
more all age shows as it went down brilliant with the young n old.
10/9/06 Nottingham a great venue called Junktion 7 but not a great
turnout tonight. Nuff said really.
14/9/06 Satan's Hollow Manchester a weird one this was as the
stage was in the centre of the room done out like Hell I didn't
think this worked very good as a venue for live bands. All played
great to a decent crowd but not one of the better ones.
15/9/06 Sheffield Cricketers a small pub gig but with a great
reception from the crowd all bands played another storker here.
Just shows sometimes the small sweaty gigs are much better.
16/9/06 and the highlight of this little tour Birmingham Academy
and Crashed Out are on first they played a great set including The
Jarrow Song, Fat Punks Don't Pogo, & This is Our Music, to a crowd
of about 400 going crazy. This was another all age show and the
lads got an amazing reception from the crowd.
Holy Racket next and they played for me the best they have this
tour again the crowd went wild from start to finish very tight
indeed.
Drongos For Europe last up and on home ground every head in the
place was bouncing from start to finish kids mixed with older and
very old punk rockers really going for it. and after 20 odd year
the band are as fresh as the day they started.
I have been on tour with loads of bands over the years but this
was one that I will class as supreme the bands put 110% in every
night and all were gentlemen no bitches or strops just good old
fashioned punk rock 'n' roll.

It was a toss-up to
going to see the Last Resort at Hartlepool, or coming here to see
a delightful chamber music quartet, fronted by two artistic
brothers. As I couldn't raise a full carload, I decided to come
here instead (sorry Debs). But, once I got talking to a few people
outside, it became apparent that I only had to bring the car along
and ask. I could have soon poached a few of the Oots audience to
bring over to Hartlepool. But, as I'd already sank one or two, I
was staying here.
A sweat soaked mixture of Punks, skinheads, Toon Army
footsoldiers, and assorted Geordie and Mackem misfits enjoyed some
cracking music, starting with Bint, who were four young lads,
doing well-known covers. The first music I heard tonight was a
Scottish Punk lass singing along to their version of Cock
Sparrer's England Belongs To Me. They ended with Angelic Upstarts
oldie, Murder Of Liddle Towers, which they played a lot faster.
Crashed Out are no strangers to the Duke, as they've played here
quite a few times. Tonight, their dress code was shorts, as it was
so hot, inside. Most of the crowd stayed outside in between bands,
in an attempt to keep cool, but even then, the sun was still
belting down. Plenty of old favourites including the Jarrow Song,
and Wasted, and This Is Our Music churned out. When they did
Freakshow, a number about a local character, Jarrow Elvis, they
were joined on stage by the man, himself.
I think it was a waste of time setting up the merch stand, as
nobody could get near it, it was so packed and crushed in there.
The last number of the night was the encore Raise Your Glasses,
which goes along to the tune of an old Geordie folk song Blaydon
Races, and got a great mosh down the front, with bodies going
everywhere.

Trillians
Newcastle
This was a free gig, and was packed out with
serving and retired Punks, skinheads, football lads, heavy
metallers, goths, and indie kids. The latest Pearls Before Swine
cd was on sale at their merch stall, and most of the tracks on it
were played tonight, including old favourites Jarrow Song, and
Raise Yer Glasses, which is a punked up version of The Blaydon
Races. Two songs which stood out were Fat Punks Don't Pogo, and
Murder On Sunset Strip. Fast And Loose may have the same name as a
Motorhead song, but has more a feel of AC/DC. In fact, guitarist,
Lee, could hold down a place in an AC/DC tribute act, if he liked,
with his bouncy, chugging riffs, and quickfire solos.
The Oots got a tremendous reception here, as they always do, with
a mad lot down the front moshing and pogo-ing away. A
celebrity-studded audience included Mensi of the Angelic Upstarts,
as well as the singer of Rigid Digits, and one of the girls off
the cover of the cd, who was also giving it plenty down the mosh
pit.

Community punk at it's
cheerful best, boistous tunes coupled with standard
old skool sentiments and rejection of the selfish and greedy aspects
of
todays society. Mixing a few reggai riffs and some stylish chanting
with
chugging punk guitar riffs and bashing drums, 'crashed out' will
appeal to
all true punkers and could attract the kids away from the bubblegum
version
of american punk that has become so tiresome and pointless. An album
full of
commitment and honest sentiment.

CRASHED OUT - Back For More EP:
This EP has been out for a coupe of years now and I've only just
heard it!!! My loss because these are a Street Punk band that have
progressed from their early days and this release shows that.
It kicks off with ´Wasted´ which will no doubt have the PC brigade
up in arms! ´The Jarrow Song´ for me was probably the best track
on here though ´One Of The Boys´ and ´Devil On My Back´ aren't too
far behind. 7 tracks in all and as Punk and Fuck!
I'm glad these have moved on from their early days and if these
guys are playing a show near you - Do yourselves a favour and go
along. (Self Financed) 8/10

CRASHED OUT - Demo:
Six tracks here and these piss all over the Street Punk bands doing
the rounds in the UK at the moment.
This demo kicks off with ´Fast N Loose´ then it's just great Street
Punk tunes all the way through and some great numbers like ´Heroes´
and ´Scream N Shout´ finishing with a reworked ´The Jarrow Song´.
For those that don't know Decca Wade the original Upstarts drummer
plays on here and a top drummer to boot. The guitarist and bassist are
spot on with some great tunes and not forgetting the vocalist either.
They make a great band and here's hoping 2005 is their year. (Self
Financed) 9/10

(7 Tracks CD CRASHED OUT Records)
Don't know much about CRASHED OUT apart from their from Jarrow, Tyne & Wear.
This is one of the best examples of Old School mid paced Punk I've heard
in a long time. There are a few bands around at the moment who play this
late 1970's style punk but none pull it off as well as these lads. The
songs are catchy and well performed with good production which makes
this a most for all you good time Punker's. There's even back up from
a piano that just adds to the whole thing and doesn't sound cheesy at
all, no it gives it the edge. The vocals are perfect for this style of
music with cool backups added, which just makes the feet tap uncontrollably.
For all you Blink 182 fans this probably would not appeal but if you
like the lighter side of bands like Bombshell Rocks, Rancid then you
will see the appeal in this band. Come on give CRASHED
OUT a chance now...you
may find yourself well surprised.
Summary : One of the best Old School Mid Pace Punker's I've heard in
ages.

Review of first gig of the year.
CRASHED OUT. SHOTGUN SOLUTION. SCUM - Oldham. Backdoor Club
(Friday 10 January)
Well, as you know it is extremely rare for me to do gig reviews - usually
too busy drinking or too busy dancing, oh yeah and chatting, but I felt
I had to tell you about the first gig of the year for me.
We turned up late after trying to find the entrance for the venue -
it is not called the Backdoor Club for nothing. By the time we got in
Scum were well on their way through their set. And for once Rich (guitarist)
looked like an OAP. Why do I say this? Well the average age of the gig
was around 13! Most except us mature (ahem) punks and skins, were aged
between eleven and fifteen. You would go to the loo and they were talking
about who snogged who, detentions etc - they were young enough to be
my children (not that I have got any children). Anyway Scum were playing
on regardless and I have to give it to them they are not as shit as
they used to be :-) We only caught there last three songs, but wish
I had seen more.
The next band up were Rochdale's threesome 'Shotgun Solution's. I had
not seen these play for a couple of years and when I had last seen them
one member of the band had only been in the band a day or so, so it
was slightly shambolic. This time however they did straightforward street
punk, played with more finesse and you would swear there were more members
in the band if you could not see them. They did mainly their own tracks
(remind me of a mix of Condemned 84, Oi Polloi and Mac Lads), but with
a couple of covers thrown in for good measure. One of these I enjoyed
the most was an adaptation of Ejected's East End Kids, which became
East Lancs. Kids. Other ditties I enjoyed were Drunk On Monday, Smackheads
and Beaten Black and Blue. Their finale was Mac Lads 'Fluffy Pup'. Although
I am not a Mac Lads fan by any stretch of the imagination, I think they
do this brilliantly. Nat does the girlie bit very well - could also
imagine she could do the the female in Gonads tracks.
Finally on were Jarrow's finest -
CRASHED OUT. This is the second time
I have seen them and they have been excellent both time. I should imagine
the crowd looked slightly different to when they last played (with Angelic
Upstarts, between Christmas and New Year). Although Decca Wade who now
plays Drums for CRASHED OUT said that when he started in the Upstarts
the age of the audience pretty much matched this. Their cracking set
kicked off with Wasted and finished with my favourite CRASHED OUT track
'Sick Of Life' - I love that song. Amongst there own tracks they did
a cover of Sabbath's Paranoid and Upstarts 'Leave Me Alone' - which
they did better than the Upstarts! Fans of melodic but powerful oi should
check these out when they play in a town near you.
Throughout the gig the wee whippersnappers danced away, and seemed to
enjoy the entertainment for the night, before their parents came and
collected them. Most of the time there was a them and us divide on the
dance floor, but every now and then one or two would be brave and come
and dance with us big girls and boys. They had none of the bad attitude
and chip on their precocious shoulders that their older baggy jeans,
skateboard carrying older brothers and sisters have. Let's hope this
younger generation learnt something about good music that night which
will keep the real thing going. All in all, I found this a very fun
night and that is not a word I would usually use for oi/punk gigs.
